Anita Agarwal, MD

Anita Agarwal, MD

Dr. Agarwal is a vitreo-retinal consultant at West Coast Retina, San Francisco, and adjoint professor of ophthalmology at the Vanderbilt Eye Institute and the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. She specializes in medical and surgical diseases of the retina and uvea, and has a special interest in uncommon and inherited retinal diseases.

Dr. Agarwal received her medical degree from Kasturba Medical College Mangalore and ophthalmology residency and fellowship training at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), and the University of Florida, Vanderbilt University and West Virginia University.

Dr. Agarwal is the author of the fifth edition of the Gass' Atlas of Macular Disease, and has co-authored landmark research papers on the genetics of macular degeneration. Her clinical interests include a variety of infectious, inflammatory, degenerative and dystrophic medical retinal disorders and surgical vitreo-retinal disorders. She is a member of the Macula Society and Retina Society and has been recognized as one of America's best doctors, Castle Connolly's top doctors and top ophthalmologists. She is the recipient of the 2014 J. Donald M. Gass Medal for outstanding contributions in understanding macular diseases awarded by the Macula Society and the 2015 Optic (UK) Lecture Medal awarded by the Royal College of Ophthalmology, UK. She has delivered several named lectures and also received honour awards from the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists. She serves on the editorial board of journals - Ophthalmology, Ophthalmology-Retina, Retina Cases and Brief Reports and the American Journal of Ophthalmology Case Reports.

Fernando Arevalo

Fernando Arevalo, MD, FACS

Dr. Arevalo has been recognized as one of the leading ophthalmologists in South America. In 2001, he founded the Arevalo-Coutinho Foundation for Research in Ophthalmology. In 2011, Dr. Arevalo was invited by Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore to work as a professor of ophthalmology and the chief of the retina division of the King Khaled Eye Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for a four-year tenure (2011-2015). In 2015, he was appointed to the Wilmer Eye Institute of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine as the Edmund F. and Virginia B. Ball professor of ophthalmology in the retina division and chief of ophthalmology at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

As a clinical scientist, Dr. Arevalo has produced more than 800 scientific publications (more than 240 on MEDLINE) and 12 books. He has presented more than 700 scientific papers and more than 1000 invited lectures in North America, South America, Central America, Europe, Africa, and Asia, leading to international recognition and many awards.

Audina Berrocal, MD

Audina Berrocal, MD

Dr. Berrocal received her undergraduate education at Princeton University followed by medical school at Tuft University School of Medicine. She stayed at Tufts/New England Eye Center, where she completed her ophthalmology residency. Dr. Berrocal subsequently received vitreoretinal surgery and uveitis training at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She has since remained on the faculty at Bascom Palmer, where she holds currently the rank of professor. She also serves as director of the Pediatric Retina Service at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Berrocal is internationally recognized for her approach to pediatric retinal diseases with a special emphasis on retinopathy of prematurity. In addition, she maintains a robust adult vitreoretinal surgical practice. Dr. Berrocal is an active member of the Retina Society, The Macula Society, Club Vit, and holds leadership positions in many of these groups including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists. On good days, she enjoys spending time with family and friends in Miami. On good nights, Dr. Berrocal explores new places around the world.

Ian M. MacDonald

Ian M. MacDonald, MSc, MD CM

Dr. MacDonald is emeritus professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, University of Alberta and past chair of the department, having served four terms over 20 years. In recognition of his work in Canada to foster the development of academic ophthalmology, he was elected as a fellow to the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.

Dr. MacDonald's area of clinical and research interest is inherited retinal disorders, in particular, maculopathies and choroideremia. In his role as principle investigator on the Alberta Innovates-Health Solutions CRIO Alberta Ocular Gene Therapy Team, he leads a team that initiated the first application of ocular gene therapy in Canada.

Rishi P. Singh

Rishi P. Singh, MD

Dr. Singh is a staff surgeon at the Cole Eye Institute, Cleveland Clinic, and associate professor of ophthalmology at the Lerner College of Medicine in Cleveland Ohio. He also currently serves as the medical director of informatics at the Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Singh received his medical degree from Boston University in the prestigious accelerated medical program and completed his residency at the Massachusetts Eye and Infirmary Harvard Combined Program in Boston, Massachusetts. He then completed a medical and surgical fellowship at the Cole Eye Institute in Cleveland.

Dr. Singh specializes in the treatment of medical and surgical retinal disease, such as diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, and age-related macular degeneration. He has authored more than 90 peer-reviewed publications, books, and book chapters and serves as the principal investigator in numerous national clinical trials advancing the treatment of retinal disease. He is frequently invited to speak at national and international meetings, as well as continuing medical education seminars.

Dr. Singh is also a reviewer for various ophthalmology and medical publications including Archives of Ophthalmology, American Journal of Ophthalmology, IOVS, and Ophthalmology. He maintains a strong relationship with drug development and commercial entities by serving on scientific advisory boards.

Dr. Singh currently serves on the board of the American Society of Retina Specialists and is the current president of the Retina World Congress.
