Abstract review process

All abstracts are reviewed according to the submission guidelines. Each submission undergoes a rigorous two-part peer-review process where they are evaluated on their educational value, importance and quality and to ensure that the content is balanced and non-biased. Abstract reviewers are selected by the Annual Meeting Planning Committee (AMPC) and assigned by subspecialty.

During the first review, abstracts are blinded and all identifying information, including author names, financial disclosures, ethical approval, clinical trial registration, etc., is removed. Reviewers score abstracts based on content only. The total maximum score per abstract is 15 and any abstract receiving a score below the cut-off of 9.0 will not be accepted, for either paper or poster presentation.

During the second review, COS reviewers assess abstracts scoring 9.0 or higher for ethical and/or financial disclosure concerns. The abstracts are un-blinded and all submitted content, disclosures, and other key details are provided to the reviewer (aside from author contact information). Reviewers are asked to confirm acceptance or rejection of the abstract.
