Meeting Objective/Target Audience
The objective of this meeting is to provide a forum for the dissemination of scientific information and advances and trends in ophthalmology. This meeting is targeted to general and sub-specialty ophthalmologists in clinical practice or research, vision scientists, and medical education professionals.
Disclosure Policy
The Canadian Ophthalmological Society requires that audiences at COS-sponsored educational programs be informed of a presenter's (speaker, faculty, author, or contributor) academic and professional affiliation, and the existence of any significant financial interest or other relationship a presenter has with the manufacturer(s) of any commercial product(s) discussed in an educational presentation. When an unlabeled use of a commercial product, or an investigational use not yet approved for any purpose is discussed during the presentation, it is required that presenter's disclose that the product is not labeled for the use under discussion or that the product is still investigational.
This policy allows the listener/attendee to be fully knowledgeable in evaluating the information being presented. The Program will note those speakers who have disclosed relationships, including the nature of the relationship and the associated commercial entity.
Authors of submitted abstracts must complete the disclosure statement in the electronic submission form. Invited speakers who are not required to submit an abstract will receive a form that must be completed and returned.
Disclosure should include any relationship that may bias one's presentation or which, if known, could give the perception of bias. These situations may include, but are not limited to:
- stock options or bond holdings in a for-profit corporation or self-directed pension plan;
- research grants;
- employment (full or part-time);
- ownership or partnership;
- consulting fees or other remuneration;
- non-remunerative positions of influence such as officer, board member, trustee, or public spokesperson;
- receipt of royalties;
- speaker's bureau;
- other.
