Ophthalmologist with Cornea Subspecialty Training, Waterloo Regional Eye Program – Kitchener, ON (Hospital)

The Waterloo Regional Eye program is recruiting a full-time ophthalmologist with cornea subspecialty training to the Department of Surgery at Saint Mary’s General Hospital to provide the highest quality medical and surgical care to patients in our community. The successful candidate will have regular surgical time at the hospital and at our off-site surgical centre, minor procedure room time, laser clinic time, and access to hospital-based diagnostics.
Saint Mary’s General Hospital is a 153-bed adult acute-care facility and the regional centre for ophthalmology subspecialty care with a full complement of subspecialty surgical services including glaucoma, oculoplastics, retina, and cornea. The hospital has a fully equipped laser clinic (SLT, YAG, Pascal photocoagulation with indirect) and diagnostics including wide field imaging, B Scan ultrasound and IVFA. Ophthalmological consultation services are also provided at Grand River Hospital, a 567-bed facility that services the Waterloo Region. The successful applicant will join our team of 10 ophthalmologists in Kitchener-Waterloo and will provide regional consultation and on-call services alongside the 16 other ophthalmologists in the Waterloo Wellington Region. The applicant is expected to provide medical and surgical cornea care for patients in our community.
Kitchener Waterloo (KW) is a progressive diverse and multicultural city considered a global technological hub with abundant culture, sport and music. Home to Laurier University and the University of Waterloo, the Perimeter Institute, and Centre for International Governance Innovation, KW is ranked in the top ten in Canada for ethnic diversity. Cornea and External Diseases Subspecialist, Dalhousie University and Nova Scotia Health – Halifax, NS (University)

Dalhousie University and Nova Scotia Health (NSH) are seeking a qualified full-time ophthalmologist with sub-specialty training in cornea and external diseases to practice in a challenging and rewarding community-based and academic medical environment. The successful candidate will have a community-based practice in Halifax and will be granted a Continuing Appointment with the Faculty of Medicine, Dalhousie University. The candidate will be expected to participate in teaching, research, and other academic and/or administrative duties as member of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. Candidates for this position must have an MD and have completed a residency in ophthalmology and a minimum of 12-24 months of post-residency fellowship training in cornea and external diseases, including active exposure and participation in clinical research. The successful candidate will possess excellent clinical and surgical skills and demonstrate an ongoing interest in clinical and/or basic science research and teaching. Candidates should be certified or eligible for certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and be eligible for a license in the province of Nova Scotia and for attending privileges at NSH.

Locum Tenens Ophthalmologist with Specialization in Cataract, Trillium Health Partners – Mississauga, ON (Hospital)

The Surgery Program at THP is seeking a full-time Locum Ophthalmologist for a one-year term to be a member of our Division of Ophthalmology focused on supporting the reduction of Cataract Surgery wait times. The ideal candidate will have FRCS(C) certification in Ophthalmology. In this role the successful candidate would join a dedicated team of fellow Ophthalmologists and work closely with the interprofessional team to support patient/family centered care.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the Division of Ophthalmology’s hospital on-call schedule, and surgical time for cataract surgery would be available. It is expected that the candidate would provide comprehensive office-based ophthalmologic care, with a community-based office practice that is located to provide accessible service to the residents of the Mississauga and West Toronto communities. Decisions on an applicant’s candidacy for this Hospital role are separate from how the applicant chooses to establish their community-based practice.

Locum (May – November), Surgical Retina Specialist – Calgary Zone, Alberta Health Services (University)

The Department of Surgery, Alberta Health Services – Calgary Zone, and the University of Calgary, is seeking a locum for a Medical and Surgical Retina position. The successful applicant will provide clinic service within two multispecialty group practices, which include other retina specialists who can provide mentorship if needed. The locum includes 1-2 OR days per month, and 1:6 retina on call coverage with extra OR time while on call. Start date ideally would be May 1st 2025 but new graduates finishing their training at the end of June 2025 are also invited to apply and could start July 2025. Requirements include an MD, fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Ophthalmology or an FRCSC equivalent, and retina fellowship training in medical and surgical retina (1 year minimum, 2 years preferred). The ability to contribute to services including uveitis, ocular oncology, and/or retinopathy of prematurity screening are not mandatory but would be considered assets. Applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
In accordance with Canadian Immigration requirements, priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada. Deadline for application is February 21st. Academic Glaucoma Specialist, Kingston Health Sciences Centre – Kingston, ON (University)

The Department of Ophthalmology at Queen’s University is seeking an Academic Glaucoma Specialist. Qualified applicants will hold an MD degree with sub-specialty training in glaucoma. Successful candidates must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and preference will be given to applicants who have specialty certification from the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or the American Board of Specialties.
The successful incumbent will be expected to provide complex medical and surgical glaucoma subspecialty care, including the breadth of implantable glaucoma surgical devices (to MIGS, MIBS, tubes). While this will be mostly a clinical position, being an academic position, the successful candidate is expected to: provide teaching to medical students, residents and fellows; be involved in research; as well as perform some of the various administrative tasks required of the Department (leadership roles, committees, etc). Comprehensive ophthalmology call coverage is expected and shared amongst the members of the Department in an equitable manner.
The Department has a busy glaucoma service providing all the complex glaucoma care for the region. The service is well equipped with all the latest diagnostic and therapeutic devices (MIGS, MIBS, tubes). The service is highly innovative and conducts research into new models of eye care delivery. It has a fellowship training program, training 1-2 fellows per year.

Located in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), Clarity Eye Institute (CEI) is looking to recruit one (1) full time surgical vitreo-retinal (VR) Ophthalmologist to fill an immediate vacancy. As the largest private Ophthalmology office in Ontario, CEI is a 7 site, nearly 40 MD / OD practice that services a catchment area of 7 million patients and 13 Ontario hospitals. CEI houses every major subspecialty (except for pediatrics) as well as providing optometric services.
Successful candidates will develop his / her own independent ophthalmic practice at CEI and will also be responsible for covering for emergent patient care during colleague absences as well as well as assisting with regional ocular emergency patient care.
Position:
Surgical retina (VR) with the possibility of cataract surgery. The Ophthalmologist will have successfully completed a fellowship in surgical retina. Services will be rendered at least two (2) CEI locations with a focus on Newmarket, ON. Surgical retina resources will be provided at CEI’s sister company ASC (known as Lumea) in Vaughan, ON. The successful applicant can expect one to two OR days a month with a potential to expand based on need. Cataract surgical resources will also be available at Lumea should the successful candidate desire as Lumea offers a full scope refractive surgery and private cataract surgery suite in addition to retinal surgery.

Ophthalmologist, Glaucoma Specialist – Calgary, Alberta (University)

The Department of Surgery, Alberta Health Services-Calgary Zone and the University of Calgary invite applications for an Ophthalmologist – Glaucoma Specialist. Qualifications include an MD, certification by the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada in Ophthalmology or equivalent, and a minimum one-year glaucoma fellowship is required. Competency in the care of both adults and children with glaucoma is required. Applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
The successful candidate will become a member of the Section of Ophthalmology, Department of Surgery, Calgary Zone. There will be access to operating time at the Rockyview General Hospital without assigned blocks, and the chartered surgical facilities for scheduled procedures. There will be an obligation to commit to clinics at the Rockyview Eye Clinic. There will be access to operating time at Alberta Children’s Hospital for pediatric cases. Calgary’s glaucoma service currently provides services to all of Alberta, resulting in both tertiary and quaternary care. The successful candidate will participate and provide clinical and surgical care for the adult and pediatric glaucoma population. There is an expectation to collaborate and support the current glaucoma team for patient care.
The current glaucoma program contributes academically through publications and teaching of residents and fellows both clinical, surgical and didactic. The selected candidate will be expected to apply for a clinical appointment with the University of Calgary, Cumming School of Medicine, Department of Surgery, and to participate in medical student, resident, and fellowship teaching. They will also be expected to have academic output in the form of research, education, and administration.
