| Systematic process for performing an eye exam stressing non-equipment based testing (eg, vision, extraocular motility, external exam) |
| Introduction to the slit lamp describing proper patient/observer positioning and settings. A description of the proper use of the direct ophthalmoscope and how it can be used most effectively, not just for looking at the fundus but also for detecting corneal abrasions, identifying cataracts or vitreous hemorrhage using the red reflex.

| Description of history and physical findings of common conditions (cataract, age-related macular degeneration, and glaucoma). A brief description of the current treatments (phacoemulsification, intravitreal injections, and drops with possible side effects) with an emphasis on presentation of postoperative complications. |
| Description of history and physical findings of urgent sight threatening conditions (retinal detachement, corneal ulcer, endophthalmitis, angle closure glaucoma, temporal arteritis).
