Membership Categories

• Active Member

  The Active Member category is open to physicians who have received at least one of the following:

  • certification of fellowship in ophthalmology from the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada
  • a diploma of the American Board of Ophthalmology or its equivalent
  • certification by the board of the province in which he or she practices
  • other specialist qualifications in ophthalmology deemed acceptable to the COS Board of Directors

  FEES: $793 + HST
  Note: Graduated fee following Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada certification: balance of graduating year, complimentary; 1st year, 50% of fee; 2nd year, 75% of fee; 3rd year $793 + HST

• Associate Member

  The Associate Member category is open to individuals who:

  • hold the degree of Doctor of Medicine and are not certified ophthalmologists but whose professional standing is acceptable to the COS Board of Directors and
  • are engaged in a field allied with, or in a basic science related to, ophthalmology

  FEES: $408 + HST

  (Employees associated with pharmaceutical and medical device companies are not eligible for this category)

• Affiliated Member

  The Affiliated Member category is open to any person who:

  • holds the degree of Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Philosophy or an equivalent degree or professional standing acceptable to the COS Board of Directors and
  • is not an ophthalmologist, but is engaged in a field allied with, or in a basic science related to, ophthalmology

  Affiliated Members may participate in debate at all business meetings, and shall receive all publications of the Society.

  FEES: $408 + HST

  (Employees associated with pharmaceutical and medical device companies are not eligible for this category)

   

• International Member
  • The International Member category is open to physicians:
    • who hold a valid and unrestricted license to practice ophthalmology in a country other than Canada and
    • whose professional standing is acceptable to the COS Board of Directors

    FEES: $663 (Canadian dollars)

• Life Member

  The Life Member category is open to individuals who:

  • have been Active Members of COS for the previous consecutive 25 years and
  • has reached the age of 65 and has retired from practice

  FEES: Still in practice: $362 + HST; no longer in practice: $107 + HST; the annual meeting registration fee for Life Members (Retired) is $54

• Junior Member

  The Junior Member category is open to physicians who are either:

  • engaged on a full-time basis in an accredited Canadian ophthalmology program or
  • actively engaged in a recognized ophthalmology specialist program

  FEES: Complimentary
